San Antonio, home to the Alamo, the World Champion San Antonio Spurs and the River Walk, hosts a vibrant mix of rich traditions and modern pleasures. A cosmopolitan blend of art galleries, dining, and shopping dot the pedestrian cityscape along the River Walk. San Antonio is one of America’s friendliest cities and truly captures the spirit of Texas. This sample itinerary introduces students to all the highlights. Choose these attractions or vary it with ideas of your own. Every tour we build is fully customized.
DAY ONE
This is the heart of San Antonio, a network of cobblestone pathways, gardens and patios that follows the river for more than two miles through the city’s center. Students also love a river boat tour or a meal at one of the many alfresco cafés or restaurants.
IMAX Theatre
Relive San Antonio’s unforgettable 13 days of glory as 189 Texan and Tejano defenders fight for Texas Independence. IMAX puts you in the middle of the action with a six-story screen and six-track stereo sound.
Mission Trail
Walk in the footsteps of that history when you explore the famous Spanish Colonial Missions, including the Alamo.
La Villita
Discover one of San Antonio’s original settlements now lined with galleries, boutiques and cafés.
Market Square
The largest Mexican market north of the Rio Grande is another great addition to San Antonio school travel. Its color and activity are that of a traditional Mexican Mercado. After shopping, consider dinner at Mi Tierra Restaurant, a locally owned family restaurant, serving traditional Tex–Mex food and freshly-baked pastries.
Museo Alameda
This first formal affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution tells the stories of the Latino experience in America through art, history and culture.
DAY TWO
Have your travel group spend the day on some of the fastest, wildest rides in the country, outstanding entertainment, and more in the Texas-sized version of this favorite amusement park franchise. Goliath is one of the newest rides here, the ultimate inverted coaster, on which the bottom drops out as you race above 50 mph with nothing beneath your feet but earth and sky. And that’s only one of the thrills you’ll find here.
Dinner on the River Walk
Enjoy another evening on the River Walk and some of the most popular dining in San Antonio.
DAY THREE
SeaWorld San Antonio
You know Sea World thrives with marine life, awe-inspiring performances, and the chance to interact with your favorite creatures of the sea. But you’ll also find thrilling rides like Journey to Atlantis–Take the plunge! Journey to Atlantis, the first of its kind, part roller coaster, part water ride. The journey includes a 100-foot-high, panoramic view of San Antonio, a gentle ride, and a final plunge at 49 miles per hour through a wall of water.
